In a world where fast fashion contributes 92 million tonnes of landfill annually, Black Raven Studio is slowing down and embracing sustainability as we create wearable art that's not only beautiful, but makes a local and global difference.
Eco-dyeing uses natural materials like plants and flowers to dye fabrics, reducing environmental impact. This sustainable process lowers water usage, supports local resources, and provides beautiful creative options for cloth and paper.
Recycling, repurposing and rescuing - the preparation of fibre sets the foundations for successful art. Items pictured include linen tablecloths, cotton t-shirts, natural fibre dresses, men's shirts, plus various shorts and pants - all found in my local op shops.
There's a short film about John Wolseley that speaks not only to my sense of humor but also my creative soul... and when there's no dying matter on hand at the studio I pursue my passions with traditional art supplies, natural fibres, earth, leaves, rainwater, cow poo and rusty objects from the farm.
Come with me as I share my adventures : : living and dyeing in Australia and abroad. Participate in my reflections, excitement, discoveries, successes and failures through (ad-free) substack
We acknowledge the traditional custodians, the Noongar Kaneang, Pibelmen and Wadandi peoples of this unceeded land, and extend our repects to Elders past and present.
